You become obscenely overpowered to the point that nothing but insta-death pits are a threat. Like, a piece of armor in the first cycle was unenchanted but in this next cycle it's enchanted.ĭid I mention you have guns? Rifles, pistols, machine guns? This game kicks assĮdit: I finished the game's new game plus. From what I played, not much has changed other than some items are now better than they were the first time around. It also sports a New Game Plus which I always enjoy. Overall, I think it's a really neat game and if you wanted to get into King's Field but didn't want to spend 20+ hours in something that takes a while to get used to, Shadow Tower Abyss is just the thing for you to dip your toe. The monsters are also quite interesting and even expressive, you can even cut off specific parts during combat - for example, the arm they are using to hold their weapon, leaving them more vulnerable, or their head, leaving them less accurate That being said, the levels themselves are well done and have some neat puzzles and beautiful environments. So it's much more linear and you're often told to choose between left and right. Levels aren't interconnected like last time, being more of a "oh look, this door leads to that area that has the key to this door that leads to that area". I'd even go so far as to say I prefer it over King's Field 4 - The Ancient City on a stricly gameplay level. Due to its shortness, it feels a lot more focused and polished.
It plays similarly to King's Field but has a more controller options and one that uses more modern controls - analog sticks. This game is relatively short, less than 8 hours and even less if you don't explore more but that might lead in you missing out on powerful equipment that would make your journey easier I honestly don't know why I've been playing so many of their older titles lately, I guess they scratch an itch I didn't know I had (even Armored Core comes back to my mind, making me want to give it another shot) Yet another From Software game from an older time. Thankfully, one does exist and it does a good job though some text overlapping occurs
The game didn't release in the rest of the world so an English patch is necessary. Everything else didn't seem affected by the speed up, only improved. Important note: this time there was no patch to increase the speed/frame rate of the game so, due to its less than bearable walk speed, I played the game almost exclusively in turbo mode, speeding up everything to about 2x, including the music, which is a shame because I actually like it, stopping to appreciate it.
